St Vincent’s can give carers a break through flexible respite options including:

Community respite care

For getting out of the house, community respite care is also a great option.

Community respite care (also known as centre based respite) is provided at a centre or out in the community during the day. The options for this are only limited to where you live and the level of care you require.

Some examples of community respite care include:

  • Going out for a picnic with a carer
  • Spending time at a club or RSL with other like-minded people
  • Visiting a community centre for exercise or activities
  • Visiting a park and having some time to yourself with a carer

Know that whatever community or home respite looks like for you, it is all tailored to the level of care your loved one requires.

If your loved one has a memory problem for example, our staff are there to support your loved one to ensure that they have access to enjoying activities in a safe environment.

Note: If a higher level of respite care is required (e.g. residential respite) clients need to be assessed by ACAT and choose support based on the level of care and assessed need.

St Vincent's Home Care services explained

Personal Care

It can become more difficult to stay fresh and feel yourself particularly if your mobility or vision isn’t where it used to be.

St Vincent’s home care workers can help with:

  • Showering
  • Self-Care
  • Hygiene
  • Personal grooming

St Vincent’s staff are caring, considerate and always take into account a person’s likes and dislikes while supporting them. This is extremely important when it comes to the personal aspects of a personal carer.

Nursing care

With St Vincent’s Home Care, an in-home nurse, home care nurse, medical caregiver, or even home health caregiver can come to you in the comfort of your own home instead of going into nursing home care or a long-term care facility.

St Vincent’s community nurses are registered and qualified to:

  • Administer medications and injections
  • Provide care assessments
  • Assist with complex hygiene
  • Provide medical treatment and care related to health conditions including diabetes management
  • Dressing injuries (wound care)
